The Art Of Hand Embroidery

The Art Of Hand Embroidery

The wonder of chikankari work embroidery can be seen in our beautiful Harriet cotton dress, totally hand made by skilled artisans.

The ancient technique of this fine embroidery has been known since the 18th century and has been passed down between women from generation to generation. The design motifs are firstly hand-block printed onto the garment, before being hand-embroidered using a classic darn stitch on the front or sometimes the reverse of soft washed, fine cotton-voile, using an embroidery hoop. Each garment naturally being unique, as it is exquisitely embroidered by proficient and adept hands creating delicate, floral motifs. An important stage is a final washing of the garment to remove the tracing created by the block print.

During a recent holiday I packed only NoLoGo-Chic dresses, which included two Harriet dresses. And a perfect day dress this was... much admired too! Strolling along the sandy beach with the odd wave soaking the fabric, I felt utter joy wearing my perfect holiday dress.

I know customers who sleep in theirs... and why not? The softest cotton, cut loose, with fabulous flower embroidery can only assist in sweet dreams.
